OBITUARY: EDWIN HURST LANE.

One of the oldest pioneers of the West, Edwin Hurst Lane, aged 81, died at his residence, >Cotehele,> Anson-street, Orange, on Wednesday morning last. Mr. Lane’s parents first settled in Australia 103 years ago, residing first at Tarana, and going about 1820 to the Orange district. About 59 years ago the deceased purchased Wambangalang from the late Mr. Duncan McKillop. He owned at various times several properties in the Orange district. Mr. Lane was of the sterling pioneer type, and a man of fine qualities, who was universally admired. His wife predeceased him only last November. The family consists of Leslie Allen, solicitor, Orange; Mrs. Reid, wife of Dr. Reid, Superintendent of Quarantine; Fred Lane, Dubbo; Norman Lane, Wambangalang; Mrs. H. W. K. Mackenzie, Orange; and Mrs. Eric Sweet, Parkes. Brothers and sisters of the deceased are John Tom Lane (New Zealand), Mrs. Catherine Soanes, Mrs. M. T. L. Dale, Mrs. June Evans, Mrs. Lewis, Nicholas Oliver Lane, Thomas Thorn Lane, Charles Wesley Lane, Frederick Lewis Lane, and James Barrett Lane.  —  The Dubbo Liberal 22 June 1926.
