The death has occurred of Mr. Lancelot Noel Smith, 86, of Boree Cabonne, one of the oldest natives of the district. He was a son of the late Mr. John Smith, a pioneer of the Molong district. Mr. L. N. Smith was educated in England. He was connected with the pastoral industry all his life, and was a notable breeder of high-class stud sheep. He was also a prominent sportsman, and owned race-horses, among them the well-known Lucknow, a champion in his time and winner of over a score of races. Mr. Smith was a member of the Orange Jockey and Picnic Race Clubs and the Molong and Cudal Jockey Clubs. He is survived by one son and four daughters, Mrs. Rule Taylor (Pymble), Mrs. Sidney Finch (England), Mrs. Marshall, and Mrs. Cape (Leadville). He was buried at Boree Cabonne, those present at the funeral including Bishop Crotty and Archdeacon Howell. [SMH 7 May 1931]

Will

Lancelot Noel Smith, of Boree, near Cudal, grazier, who died on May 1 last at the age of 86 years, left an estate valued at £56,768. He appointed his sons Cecil Machattie Smith and Lancelot Machattie Smith, executors and trustees of his will. Testator left £100 to the churchwardens of the Church of England, Cudal, to be applied to any church fund or for any church purpose in the discretion of the wardens. To each servant in his service testator left £10. The sum of £12,000 was left in trust, the income to be paid to testator’s widow. In a codicil he left £4000 to his daughter, Florence May Finch, in addition to her benefits under the will. The balance of the estate and the residue was left to relatives.
